Emergency Change of Venue for August 22-24 to Ye Olde Commons

Posted in News on August 21st, 2008 by eben

Greetings!

Due to a catastrophic clerical error, we will NOT be holding our event this weekend August 22-24 at Camp Denison in Georgetown, MA.

We WILL be holding our event at Ye Olde Commons, at 120 Northside Road in Charlton, MA 01507.

The staff of Steam & Cinders will be working overtime to move all of our props and material to this new camp at the eleventh hour. We will also do our best to see to it that all registered players are contacted personally. To assist us in this matter, we would ask that if you have not yet been contacted by (or on behalf of) an S&C staffer, you please send an email to staff@be-epic.com ASAP to let us know you are aware of the change (and hopefully to tell us if you will still be able to make the event.)

We apologize for this chaos and hope you will bear with us. Thank you!

It’s time for another War Day. Get excited for Spring!

Edited to Add: join us at Camp Denison (84 Nelson Street, Georgetown MA 01833) beginning at 1 PM.

We will be holding a War Day on Saturday, April 12.

There are 3 planned events:

  • King of the Hill
  • Capture the Flag
  • Team Elimination

For at least 1 of these games we will allow you to bring your own starting characters.

Furthermore, at least 1 of these games will be in-game for the purposes of roleplaying.

Costuming is optional, and we will provide boffers, although you should feel free to bring your own.

Speaking of which!

We will be accepting donations, both in the form of money (cash or checks) and also materials; foam, leather, pipe insulation, &c. (You name it, we want it.) You will get KAPS.

We will provide water; weather providing we will also ask players to bring food and have a cook-out afterwards.

For more details, check out our forums.

And, as always, don’t forget that our first event weekend is May 2-4. Register today.

A brief announcement concerning character stories.

The deadline for player-character history submissions is on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 11:59:59 PM. Character histories received after this deadline will not be considered for personal plot at the 1st event. Late histories will still be eligible to be awarded character build. We encourage all players to send in their backstories as soon as possible.

Character histories should be submitted to characters@be-epic.com. The 1st event is May 2-4.

Got KAPS? We want to know about it!

X-posted to the Steam & Cinders blog.

We know that many of you have already donated your time and energy to helping us get this game off the ground. Unfortunately a quick glance at our KAPS list reveals that we have not been diligent about keeping track of it all. We have a list of folks who participated in the August ‘07 War Day and the recent Camp Denison Build Day, but a number of other things have slipped through the cracks. Unacceptable! If you’ve done anything you think was KAPS-worthy (or that we told you was KAPS-worthy) please e-mail me at eben{at}be{dash}epic{dot}com. Thank you.

Hooray! The new site is live!

(That also means that there is actually now a link to this blog from elsewhere on the site. I wonder if that means anyone has shown up here yet? Comment and let me know!)

Welcome to Steam & Cinders web presence, version 2.0. I submit to you that it is made of awesome and also win.

(Incidentally, we know that some things aren’t 100% functional yet, and we’d appreciate your help in reporting any bugs or errors you may encounter.)

Also keep your ear to the ground for further details about our new “Steampunk*d” contest, which was announced over at the forums

For those who may have missed our War Day in August of ‘07, here’s an excerpt from the back of the alpha rules pamphlet we distributed: absurd profiles of the 5 Game Directors, inlcuding me.

Andrea Dipaolo is a certified anti-money laundering specialist with a Masters Degree in Necromancy. She spends her days and nights planning for the forthcoming apocalypse.

Mike Kanarek is both an artist and an artisan. Once upon a time certain documents empowered him to assume the form of a goat-like monstrosity in order to lay waste to his enemies.

Eben Lowe is not actually a game director at all, but a leathery, preserved 2,000-year-old corpse recovered from a peat bog (which prevented his complete decay.) He really likes cake.

Jonathan Singer is rated P-12 by the PsiCorps. He can infiltrate your wireless network using only his mind and, with his army of machine-elves, has been known to lay siege to even the mightiest of firewalls.

Jason “Brutanannadilewski” Rutledge is a certified public accountancy sifu, reputedly the only living master of the Invoice of the Thrashing Dragon style accountant kung fu.

Hey folks. This page is currently under construction, pending the re-launch of the Be Epic, Inc. website (which is scheduled to take place in February of ‘08). Please bear with us while we get things up and running.
